Marine Strategy-FD
In June 2008 the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) was published. The aim is to achieve a good status of the marine environment until 2020. The Marine Strategy Framework Directive follows the ecosystem approach and therefore requires a holistic view. Each member state is requested to set up a national action plan to achieve the desired overall objective and contributing conservation strategies by taking appropriate measures.
The R+D project “Implementing the ecosystem approach under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive” on behalf of the BfN (Federal Agency for Nature Conservation) is to provide a substantive contribution to the implementation of the MSRL in Germany. In the course of this, particular focus is being put on evaluation and description of the good ecological status (GES).
All work is conducted in cooperation with BioConsult (Bremen), MariLim (Kiel), AquaEcology (Hamburg) and the chair for Aquatic Ecology (Prof. Schubert), University of Rostock.
